This Is Not a Government Office. This is a private reference resource. It cannot retrieve, correct, or remove a criminal record, perform an official criminal-history check, or accept an expungement filing.
Need an Official Record?
Send each request to the office responsible for that record in Preston County:
- Circuit Court case files: Preston County Circuit Clerk, Room 301, Preston County Courthouse, 101 W Main Street, Kingwood, WV 26537; 304-329-0047; fax 304-329-1417; county-published courthouse hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Magistrate case records: Preston County Magistrate Court Clerk, Room 201 at the same courthouse; 304-329-2762, extensions 3508 or 3507; fax 304-329-0855; county-published courthouse hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Sheriff incident and crash reports: Preston County Sheriff's Office, 103 W Main Street, Kingwood, WV 26537; 304-329-1611; fax 304-329-2794. Its report form is mailed or dropped off with payment and a self-addressed envelope.
- Fingerprint-based state history: West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau, Criminal Records Section, 304-746-2418. WVSP routes checks through IdentoGO at 855-766-7746.
- Police reports: contact the sheriff, WVSP detachment, or municipal police agency that wrote the report.
- Expungement filings: use the official West Virginia Judiciary form for the applicable route and file with the court identified by the instructions.
The Sheriff's Office is the county counter for reports created by its deputies, but it is not a universal Preston County records division. Circuit and Magistrate clerks keep their own court files. WVSP keeps the fingerprint-based state repository. Calling the custodian first can confirm current hours, accepted payment, and copy procedure.
